Hello to my Fontana families and community members,

My name is Mary Sandoval and I am a lifetime resident of Fontana. I have been married to my husband Jesse for 39 years and together we have 3 adult children, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. I was first elected to Fontana Unified School District in November 2014. We are 5 generational family living in Fontana.

From aunts, uncles, brothers, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew's and grandchildren, we are a proud Fontana Unified School District family.

I retired after 17 years from MTC- Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA. I was employed as an Academic Programs Training Administrator. While working at the Job Corps, I had seen a decline in literacy and numeracy of incoming students from different California school. This was one of the reasons what inspired me to run for office.

Once elected, I was so excited to understand and learn my responsibility of being a board member. I used my first year to learn and listen. I met with teachers, administrators, buyers, classified employees and many parents to understand the needs of our students and their families. Then, I started to build my plan to help those families and their students on their path to a good education.

I have and will continue to put FUSD students first in all my decisions. They are OUR future.

I am a lifetime resident of Fontana, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. I have been a mentor an advocate for at risk youth for more than 16 years. During my tenure as an FUSD Board member student test score, attendance rates and graduation rates have increased. I am passionate about continuing to encourage our youth to be great achievers and use academia for self-enrichment and empowerment. As a community leader it's my responsibility to listen and act on behalf of all parents and youth of Fontana Unified. My decisions and votes will always be for the betterment of our students. Fontana Students are always first.

Goals
  • Continue to champion early education for all FUSD schools
  • Increase resources and accountability for our special need programs that would streamline time frames for students to receive the help they need to be successful
  • Continue to increase technology availability in all schools in our district
  • Continue to work on Capital improvement projects
  • Increase resources for safe schools and mental health services
